Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between resizing image dimensions and compressing to KB?
Resizing dimensions changes the pixel width and height of the image. Compressing to KB reduces the file size (in kilobytes) by reducing JPEG quality, without necessarily changing dimensions. Many government portals require both — a specific pixel size AND a file size limit. PhotoFit does both.
How do I resize an image to specific dimensions in pixels online?
Open PhotoFit, go to the Resize & Compress tab, enter the target width and height in pixels, upload your image, and download. Your file never leaves your browser.
Can I resize an image in centimetres or inches instead of pixels?
Yes. PhotoFit's Resize tab accepts pixels, centimetres, and inches. Enter your target dimensions in your preferred unit and it converts automatically. For print, use 300 DPI (dots per inch) as a reference.
Does resizing an image to smaller dimensions lose quality?
Downsizing (making an image smaller) preserves quality well — you are discarding pixels that are close together. Upsizing (making larger) interpolates new pixels and can appear blurry. For best results, always start from the highest-resolution original you have.
What is the best image dimension for passport photos in India?
Indian passport photos: 2×2 inches, which equals 200×200 pixels at 100 DPI or 600×600 pixels at 300 DPI. The Passport Seva portal accepts the image if it is between 10 KB and 50 KB and the face covers 70–80% of the frame.
Can I resize a batch of images at once?
PhotoFit currently processes one image at a time to keep the interface simple and private. For batch processing, you can repeat the workflow — each resize takes under 5 seconds.
